The chairman of Tenby in Bloom has met with organisers of Wales in Bloom, to discuss the future of the floral event.
Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane told her colleagues at a previous meeting of Tenby Town Council that there would be no Wales in Bloom event this year, a competition that Tenby has won 26 times in it's category, as the charity organisation was to finish the annual event due to a lack of funding.
However, Clr. Mrs. Lane explained to members at their meeting on Tuesday night that she had met with the event's chairman, John Woods, and other organisers in Cardiff recently and they explained that they hoped they would be able to find a way to continue the popular contest.
"They've not quite folded the event just yet, but they are on the verge," said Clr. Mrs. Lane.
"They are trying to work something out for this year on a shoestring budget and are looking into different sponsorship and cutbacks with a view to continuing the event in the future. It's just a matter of wishing them good luck and hope that they can continue the contest," she added.
Tenby picked up the best 'small country town' crown for the 26th time in the Wales in Bloom event last year, and is being put forward again this year to compete in the Britain in Bloom awards.
