Tenby Museum and Art Gallery are pleased to announce a grant of £5,000 pounds from 'Awards for All Wales' to purchase an audio system for the museum. The system will comprise of hand-held rechargeable wands, which will give short informative commentaries on specific objects around the galleries. Visitors will then be able to experience an audio tour of the museum. Alternatively, it will be possible to pick and choose which item to learn about by selecting the appropriate button identified on the display. It is hoped that a bilingual facility will also be included. Museum staff are currently in the process of writing the script and hope to involve the local community in the recordings. This new facility will enable visitors, old and young and of all abilities, to gain further knowledge and enjoyment from the displays and artefacts in the exhibition galleries. It will be especially helpful to those with visual and learning difficulties. The chairman and trustees are very grateful to the National Lottery and Awards for All Wales for their support in this exciting new project. After a year in which major renovation work has been carried out to the building, it will be business as usual for the new season. During this year, the Archaeology and Geology gallery will be improved and the foyer will be refurbished into a smart coffee shop. So why not visit with your friends and family, learn about your local history, trace your family tree or use the research facilities to help with your educational studies or personal interest. The museum holds a vast archive of local documents, art works, photographs, books on every subject, local council records etc. etc. You will find the staff helpful, friendly and welcoming. A 'phone call will book you into the research room and staff will be on hand to give assistance when needed. All Pembrokeshire school children have free admittance to the museum. School visits are welcomed by appointment and material can be provided to assist with the National Curriculum. Guided tours, story telling in Welsh and English, behind the scenes visits, and special interest group visits for adults and children are all part of the service offered by this award-winning museum. Various events and art exhibitions will be organised for the coming year. Check out the museum's website or look in the local press to see what's on.
