Well they say in golf that a good round is normally followed by a bad round, and this seemed the case for Richard Prout last weekend.

He cleaned up almost everything in Saturday's medal, shooting a net 67 to win it by a shot and claim the top monetary prize, also bagging a two at the 17th, which meant more money, while to top it all, he won the bag draw, which credited even more money to his account. (I wonder if his wife knows?S he does now!).

Anyway he also attended his wife's works 'do' on the Saturday evening, which left him feeling a bit bleary-eyed when he arrived on the tee for his Rabbits Winter League match on Sunday morning... mind you so were a few others, so he was not alone in that department.

His partner Tony Morris, however, was ready for the top-of-the-table clash against Paul Davies, minus his wrap-around shades, and Mick Gillet. Since aquiring his new driver, Tony has been very steady off the tee, which was fortunate, as Richard was finding parts of the course which not even the greens staff have seen.

The match went from two up to Paul and Mick to all-square coming off the 13th. This is when Richard got his playing head back on, and after a superb second shot into the par five 14th, landing six-foot from the pin, a tap-in secured the hole.

However, after dodging Robin Bradbury's monster drive down the 16th, which nearly skittled both Tony and Richard (which would have done Mick and Paul a favour), the match ended on the 18th with a win for them, but this time no money, just points, leaving them on top of the table with one match to go before the Christmas break.

Two matches were halved. One was that between Steve Watkins and Robin (I've been doing weights) Bradbury and Mark Edwards and Chris Smith, who started off at a gallop, winning the first three holes, but were pegged back and halved on the 18th.

The other was that between Phil Carpenter and sub Rees Davies (cheers Rees) and captain Tim and Mackie Harts. Nothing to report on the captain this week, though. Either he has been very good or very wary. But I am still wondering about the story of the TV remote - surely someone will enlighten me!

The final match out was that of 'my favourites', Bill Davies and Steve Cole, against Pete Turton and Mike Munro, with the former pair winning 6 and 5 - and now you know why they are my favourites to win this year. Until next week. Your Scribe.

Results: Tim Davies and Mackie Harts halved with Phil Carpenter and Bob Flower; Tony Morris and Richard Prout bt Paul Davies and Mick Gillet 1 up; Mark Edwards and Chris Smith halved with Steve Watkins and Robin Bradbury; Bill Davies and Steve Cole bt Peter Turton and Mike Munro 6 and 4.

Sub: Rees Davies for Bob Flower.
