AT a recent pleasure ride at Llys y Fran, Sue Enfield, chairman of the British Horse Society South West Wales, presented head ranger John Sampson with a 'Good Guys Award' and a BHS tie.
Sue Enfield said: "The BHS South West Wales Committee nominated John for the award in recognition of his enthusiasm and co-operation with the annual Llys y Fran ride and to further off- road riding for horse riders in Pembrokeshire."
The award was presented at the start of the pleasure ride organised by Pembrokeshire Bridleways and Byways Association (PBBA) in conjunction with United Utilities, and Mr. Emyr Davies and family, of Felindre Farm, Llys y Fran. Mr. Davies kindly allowed riders through his woodland. Eighty-three riders were treated to wonderful riding in glorious countryside. Family friends and supporters enjoyed walking or cycling in the company of the riders.
Held in aid of the British Legion Poppy Appeal, the ride has raised in excess of £1,200. David Boswell, of Pembroke, chairman of the RBL in the area, was one of the participants and presented mementos of the day to the youngest rider, 10-year-old Charlotte Wade, of Haverfordwest, and the senior rider Valerie Russell, of Pembroke Dock. Sue Hamley, of Llangolman, was presented with a book and bottle of wine as the 1,200th member of the British Horse Society in the area.
Rider Jacqui Mitchell said: "The riding was great and it was so nice to be off-road. It was lovely to see people of all ages on horses and ponies of all shapes, sizes and colours. I will definitely bring my children next year as it was well organised and suitable for all."
