The Welsh Girls Championship was played at the beginning of the month at Rhuddlan Golf Club, and it proved a successful one for the Tenby girls. The four-day event is the highlight of the girls junior golf calender, from where the girls national team selections are made. Twelve-year-old Georgia Thomas won the Dennis Smalldon Trophy for being the most improved Welsh player over the last 12 months, during which time her handicap reduced by 16 shots from 35 to 19. Georgia also won the K. Norman Jones Trophy for the best gross medal score in the 18 and above handicap category, with a fine 95 on a blustery summer's day, and is pictured with Welsh Ladies president, Christine Thomas, at the awards ceremony. In the Radyr Rosebowl Stableford competition, Emma Guerreiro achieved an excellent second place with 38 points, while both Emma and Georgia also achieved fine second places with their partners in the afternoon foursomes competition on successive days. No doubt with the time that the girls continually put in, future international honours cannot be far away.
