For most of February, filldyke has been a misnomer - freeze finger, or any other extremity, would have been more appropriate. Nevertheless, most of the Thursday competitions have been well supported by the hardy (foolhardy?) ladies.

However, the last competition in January, a Stableford, was abandoned as the weather was so poor, no-one ventured out.

The first competition in February was a yellow ball competition in which members of teams of three took it in turns to play a hole with a yellow ball and only then did the score for that hole count. The competition was greeted with some misgivings, but apparently all who played thoroughly enjoyed it and are now asking for another go. The winners were Ann Blackmore, Ann Wilks and Ruth Goldwait with 34 points and second were Eiona Aston, Betty Charnock and Rita Collins on 21.

The following week a fourcomes competition was played in which high handicap members were drawn with low. This is always popular and creates some very good pairings and scores - this time was no exception, the winners being Liz Storey and Paula Morgan with 38 points, while Linzi Hawkey and Rita Collins were second with 37.

The February LGU Medal was played on a very chilly windy day and the scores reflected the difficult conditions and the number who played was quite small. Anita Davies won the silver medal and spoon, while the bronze medal was won by Ann Wilks, who just beat L. Moran.

On Wednesday next week we shall be holding our annual social afternoon of bridge, whist and bingo. Bridge and bingo will begin at 2 pm and we hope to welcome members and friends to an enjoyable afternoon of competition, good companionship, good prizes and fine food, so come and join us.
