January 30, 2007, was Jim and Mary Morrison's Golden Wedding Anniversary. To celebrate, they invited friends and family to an evening at Whitland Bowls Club on Saturday, February 3. Vicar of St. Mary's, Whitland, Kingsley Taylor opened proceedings by performing a blessing and re-affirmation of vows at 6 pm, during which Jim surprised Mary with the presentation of a diamond eternity ring. This was toasted by the guests with Venetian Prosecco, and Kingsley made a short sermon about love and marriage. Several speeches were made that evening, the first by Con Harries, Mayor of Whitland, looking back at Jim and Mary's 27 years at Whitland. Jim then stood up and thanked all for coming, and remembered friends from Whitland over the last 27 years. Morlais Powell then stood and also remembered Jim and Mary's friendship over the years, stressing the importance of friends and family. Finally, Peter Wills stood and spoke, remembering Jim and Mary's friendship, and finally honouring Jim with the naming of Rink One at the Bowls Club as Jim's Rink. The food for the evening was loosely themed as Italian, with there being served, a large selection of antipasti, hot lasagne and pizza accompanied by garlic bread and salad, a selection of gateaux and cheese, biscuits and fruit, finishing with coffee/tea and chocolates. The food was all made and presented by Jim and Mary's daughter Rosemary, with the invaluable help of her partner Simon. The three-tier American style wedding cake was baked by Rosemary, but iced by Cate Whittlesea, an old school friend of Rosemary's and close family friend. It was attractively iced in ivory, with gold trimmings, and lilies and ivy decorating. Sixty people attended in total, including Jim's two brothers and two sisters, Jack and Muriel from Glasgow, Frank from Bristol and Moira from Mississippi. The Rev. Grahame Whittlesea made a long drive from Kent to attend, arriving about 9 pm. The evening finished at approximately 11 pm, with Mr. Georgie Johns, of Whitland, being invaluable in taxiing guests home safely. Jim and Mary want to thank all who attended for making the evening very special and enjoyable for them, and for helping to raise £385 towards the upkeep of St. Mary's Church, Whitland.

The Vicar of St. Mary’s, Kingsley Taylor, performs a blessing to mark the Golden Wedding Anniversary of Jim and Mary Morrison.
