Tenby's kind-hearted firefighters have raised over £6,000 for the national firefighters charity. The magnificent sum of £6,125 - one of the highest ever amounts raised by the South Parade station - was presented to Clr. Wynne Evans, vice-chair of Mid and West Wales Fire Authority, for the charity which is a support network for serving and retired fire service personnel.

At an official presentation evening, Pembrokeshire County Commander Steve Bryant praised the Tenby station for being at the 'heart of the community' and congratulated the crew on raising an 'unbelievable' amount for the firefighters charity.

"The total just goes up year on year," said Mr. Bryant. "Many congratulations on the work you have done this year."

He continued: "Under the guidance of watch manager Jeremy Lees, the station run here is absolutely first class. Both fire engines are available 24 hours a day 365 days of the year so the Tenby community can be reassured they have an ongoing excellent level of response."

Clr. Wynne Evans also praised the firefighters for organising the town's summer carnival, opening the station on Ironman Wales day to serve refreshments and hosting a Christmas market in December.

"We are very very grateful for all you do and look forward to another year of events ahead," he said.

Thanks were also extended to the Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, and Tenby Town Council, carnival sponsor, Lesley Fisher, of Tenby House Hotel, the police and the Tenby Observer for their support during the year.
