ST. JOHNS CHURCH
After the introit, sung by the choir, the call to worship was read by Zoe, following which Nanette gave her own words of welcome. The opening hymn was 'For all that dwell below the skies.' Then Nanette talked to the children about flying kites which needed a good wind and a good pair of legs. She also talked of the game in which parts of the body had to be matched, but we are lucky as God made us whole. The children then left for their classes. Mrs. Gwen Nicholl read from St. John Ch. 6 verses 1-15 and Ephesians Ch. 4 verses 1-16. Nanette talked of unity being God's gift to humans. Each separate part coming together in love. God's miraculous act for us here on earth was raising Jesus from the dead and then God breathed His spirit on confused men in an upper room. We should all focus not on what we lack, but what we have; the abundance of the ascended Christ. Many people believe that they are good Christians without attending church, but Paul, most emphatically, did not agree. Millions will have nothing to do with the church, but are searching for spirituality. The answer is 'God is the Bread of Life'. Prayers of intercession were said and communion was served by the elders. The service concluded with the hymn, 'Fill thou my life O Lord My God.' Thanks go to Nanette for her words of faith and to all others who took part in the service. Sunday's service will be at 10.30 and will be conducted by Nanette. All are most welcome to attend.
TENBY AND DISTRICT PROBUS CLUB
With the Gold Cup event going on, the first meeting in August was held in the Committee Room and a few members lost their way. Hopefully they were all present for the start of the meeting. It was a well attended occasion on a lovely warm morning. Darrel John, president, was in the chair and welcomed all in his usual ebullient manner. There were no anniversary boys for the day, so it was straight into the 10-minute speaker slot. This time it was the turn of Don Griffiths, and his subject was his experiences in the RAF. He gave a semi-official account of the activities of war-time RAF ground crews. These were drawn from his actual experiences. Don was quite right when he said that not enough recognition was given to this arm of the fighting forces. He concluded with a couple of poems, 'Three cheers for the man on the ground' and 'For Johnny'. The grandchildren encouraged Don to write of his war-time experiences and it is important to keep a record of such doings for future generations to read and wonder. With the computer it becomes easier by the day. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, August 16, when the 10-minute speaker will be Stan Caswell. Don't forget the Ladies Day on Wednesday, August 30, when guest speaker will be Arthur Squibbs, who will tell of the de-commissioning ceremony for the 'Sir Galahad'. If you are a retired professional or business man, why not join for the morning at the Tenby Bowling Club on August 16. Contact Lew Day on 844633 for more information.
Deer Park Baptist Church
Many visitors were noticeable in the congregation again on Sunday, among them being a family from the Netherlands. Mr. Garry Emlyn gave notices and Mrs. Sally Lloyd led the worship. Mrs. Carol Ansell encouraged us as she guided us in our open prayer time. The guest speaker this week was Mr. Colin Evans from Pembroke, the Pastor being away preaching in Neath. Colin reminded the congregation of the character of a well-known person from Old Testament Times, Noah. He was a person who 'found favour with God.' Linking truths found in both the Old and New Testament, Colin listed five aspects for us as Christians to 'find favour with God.' To be righteous, to 'walk with God,' moving in the right direction through the truth of scripture and the Holy Spirit. To share the truth about God with those we come into contact with and live a life style that reflects these truths. The prayer breakfast is at 7.30 am on Thursdays and during the school holidays a tabletop sale, and tea/coffee morning in aid of a Ugandan Orphanage is also on Thursdays. Sunday worship starts at 10.45 am. Visit the website http://www.dpbtenby.co.uk">www.dpbtenby.co.uk for further details.
HESED CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP
Sunday services take place at 4.15 pm each week in Carringtons Restaurant, below the Atlantic Hotel on Tenby's sea-front. All are welcome to join in the friendly service that includes Bible teaching, prayer, songs and refreshments. The theme last Sunday was 'Open Doors', as the pastor, Rev. Peter Richmond, focused on parts of the Bible that refer to God opening doors. Sometimes it has meant God raining down provisions on his people, as in the manna and quail that were provided for the Jews to eat when they were in the desert. Sometimes it has referred to the way God leads through circumstances - 'opening one door and closing another.' Still other references are to doors which were miraculously opened when disciples were in prison - something that can still happen today. Jesus said, "knock and the door will be opened to you." STEPS2HEALTH WALK
A well thought out route for Saturday's Steps2Health walk took the walkers on an hour- long tour of Tenby's quieter byways - including the sewerage works! (writes B.S.). Volunteer trained walks leader, Barbara Morris, had carefully mapped out the route to avoid the congestion caused by visitors and traffic. This resulted in a very interesting walk unhampered by jostling crowds and noisy traffic. The regulars were pleased to welcome a lady from Canada as well as a local lady who enjoyed her first walk with the group. On a somewhat humid morning, it was refreshing to end the walk at the harbour and enjoy coffee seated at tables overlooking the Castle Sands. Tomorrow (Saturday) we will be 'walking the way to health' from Blackpool Mill towards Slebech. To join us, meet at Blackpool Mill for an 11 am start (main gate is not opened until 11 am, but you can access the car park via the right-hand gate before that). To find out if there are any places left on the minibus leaving Somerfield 10.30, ring Paul on 07773 788173.
FRIENDS OF TENOVUS
The sum of £755 was raised as a result of a very successful concert held in St. Mary's Church recently, given by Tenby Male Voice Choir (see account elsewhere). The Friends of Tenovus wish to thank the choir and artistes for giving their services for this deserving cause.
