Girlguiding in Tenby is thriving. The 4th Tenby Guide Unit has 30 girls and a waiting list. Due to the dilapidated state of the Tenby Scout and Guide Hall in Warren Street, it has had to close. The Guides temporarily meet at the Avenue Centre. The Guides have been busy. They have collected and filled shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child, and attended the Remembrance Parade. The Guides made individual Christmas cakes, which they iced and decorated. In December they sang carols for the residents of Park House Court Nursing Home. Afterwards, 11 Guides were enrolled in the beautiful setting of the decorated lounge, followed by a delicious party buffet. Tenby Guide Jenny Hall and Young Leader Emma Harris gave an interesting account of their international guide camps in Germany and Finland at the Pembrokeshire Guides AGM. They have also given talks about their trips to Tenby Guides and Brownies, St. Mary's Church PCC, St. Mary's Mothers' Union, the Hearing Impaired Group and Tenby Town Council. Emma and Jenny would like to thank all the organisations, Greenhill School and individuals who gave donations towards their international trips. The Guides are now busy rehearsing items for the show, 'Thirty Years On', which is being produced by Pauline Allen (Akela). It will be performed at Tenby's De Valence on Thursday and Friday, March 3 and 4, with proceeds going towards the Scout and Guide Hall Fund. The show will include ex-Scouters, Scouts, Cubs, Rangers, Guides and Brownies, as well as present day Guides, Brownies, Rainbows and Cubs, in a nostalgic evening. "Every week, over 100 girls, aged between five and 14, meet and enjoy Girlguiding in Tenby," said Barbara Pegg, Guide Guider, 4th Tenby Guides." We desperately need a new hall and we hope that this will materialise as the plans are going before the planning committee this month. "We also need volunteer leaders to help run and organise meetings for all the sections. Can you help us?"
