Members of Girlguiding Pembrokeshire joined together on Monday last to present a cheque for £1,000 to Mr. Paul Cowper, co-founder of the START charity which is bringing tangible aid to communities in Sri Lanka stricken by the Boxing Day Tsunami disaster. Mr. Cowper and his family were caught up in the tragedy to such an extent that they were inspired to do something more than just put money in a collecting box. County Commissioner, Mrs. Nicole Evans sent out a challenge to all units in the county to raise money for this appeal, and just how well everyone responded can be seen by the size of the cheque. Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and their leaders from throughout the county have raised this money in all sorts of different ways; there have been sponsored bike rides, silences, and walks. Brownies have done good turns, and been rewarded for them, and some girls have given their pocket money. All have been touched by the plight of so many people, particularly the children. It is good to hear of the many young people in our community who do care, and whose sole purpose in life is not to cause trouble. With all that we see in the media, it is easy to forget that they exist. Well done Girlguiding Pembrokeshire.
