Every year, Narberth stages a colossal cake sale to raise funds for our injured soldiers.
Last year, the event raised a fantastic £6,500, but the organisers are looking to improve on that this year.
"The problem is that we run out of cakes each year and so we are asking you all, once again to roll up your sleeves and bake for our heroes," said Sally Amoore whose younger son Jamie, was seriously injured in Helmand Province.
Jamie, now 30, was a platoon commander with the 2nd Battalion The Rifles and was blown 30 feet into the air after stepping on a Taliban mine.
He spent four months in hospital, undergoing 15 operations to put him on the road to recovery.
Sally continued: "As the years go by, it gets easier and easier to forget how many of our servicemen and women have been severely wounded or killed serving our country and how many lives have been affected by their loss.
"Help for Heroes has estimated that, of the 220,560 individuals deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq between 2001 and 2014, up to 75,000 servicemen and women (and their families) have needed and may need our support in the future. It's only a matter of time before our servicemen and women are once more engaged in conflict on our behalf. When they are, which they inevitably will be, our role will be to help support them, as it is now. In the meantime, it is our duty to do our best to support those who have been injured to date and to ensure that they continue to get the very best care for as long as they need it."
Help for Heroes has supported injured servicemen and women over the past seven years with several programmes for recovery.
Sports recovery is one which to date has enabled 1,800 wound and sick service personnel and veterans to take part in adaptive sports. Help for Heroes is a proud founder partner of the Battle Back programme, a UK Military initiative that forms part of the sports recovery programme.
Battle Back meanwhile uses adaptive adventure training and sports rehabilitation to help seriously wounded service personnel gain independence and confidence to focus on what they can achieve, rather than what they can't.
The Quick Reaction Fund (QRF) helps by giving swift financial support to those with life-changing injuries, life-changing illnesses and their families. For example, funds to purchase equipment to make a home more accessible or a grant to support travel costs for a family needing to spend time by their loved ones bedside. The QRF can essentially be used for anything that alleviates the distress caused by injury or illness and aims to provide support within 72 hours in urgent cases.
Help for Heroes is passionate about getting the very best for the men and women of Great Britain's Armed Forces, both serving and veteran and works closely with other service charities to make sure this happens. Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome is increasingly affecting soldiers with anxiety and depression.
The colossal cake sale takes place on Saturday, May 2, at Narberth's Town Moor.
As well as the cake sale, there is the best dressed cake competition. For the second year running, Help for Heroes is after the best-looking cake baked to raise money for their heroes, but this year they would like you to include their three colours (navy blue, red and sky blue) somewhere on the cake.
