The Grand Charity Auction organised by the Tenby and District Gateway Club raised an amazing £5,000 on Saturday night.

A large and enthusiastic group of bidders gathered at Tenby's Giltar Hotel as a magnificent array of memorabilia and stunning promises went under the auctioneer's hammer.

Club chairman, Roland Grigg, was delighted with the result.

"To have raised so much in one night is unbelievable, " he said. "Recently club funds have been under great pressure and we knew we had to do something to boost the coffers. This has given us a real shot in the arm and means that we will be able to continue providing the outings that our members enjoy so much.

"There are so many thank- yous that we have to say as a committee, because without the support of so many people, we couldn't have put together such a superb selection of lots and in doing so put on a great social evening," he added.

"Our main thanks must go to our auctioneer John Bancroft and his wife Sue. John made sure that the bidding was fast and furious on the night and kept pushing the total upwards," Roland explained.

"We would also like to thank Ruth Webb for taking care of the money on the night and Jayne Osborne for all her work in the week leading up to the auction and on the night itself. Thanks must also go to Haven Colourprint who kindly printed the posters and programmes for the event," Roland continued.

"But most of all, our thanks go to all those people who generously donated promises and memorabilia and to all those who put in bids. As a committee we are extremely grateful for all your support and on behalf of all the members, thank you for helping the Tenby and District Gateway Club," he concluded.
