The De Rutzen Arms in Narberth was a popular hotel up until the 1940s. In the late 1980s it was turned into flats. As soon as the renovation was completed and most of the flats sold, the management company went into decline.
The building then languished for lack of attention until 1998, when the various owners of the De Rutzen flats formed their own management company which is now in place to oversee the buildings and the grounds of the complex.
The management company have not been idle. The De Rutzen received a radical facelift in 2000 for the millennium and earlier this week, the magnificent new iron gates were hung in the two arches which flank the building.
Phil Edwards, one of the two directors, and the man responsible for the gates project, said: "So many people have helped us to get these very fine gates in place. It has been a real community project and is yet another example of how Narberth continues to be an optimistic and progressive town."
The gates were crafted by Clunderwen blacksmith Graham Bibby and Burns Building Co. staff Robbie Burns and John Masella helped to hoist them into their final position.
