It's the question that's been on everyone's lips - what's going to become of Tenby's former Royal Gatehouse Hotel site?
Well, we can exclusively reveal that a multi-million scheme for its redevelopment has just been submitted to planners.
It's an ambitious residential, retail and leisure proposal which incorporates not only the former five-storey hotel site - demolished following last March's devastating Easter Bank Holiday inferno - but also the adjoining Royal Playhouse Cinema and nearby Royal Lion Hotel.
Five applications - plus one for Listed Building consent - have been received by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority from Cardiff-based architects C2J.
They are as follows:
• Fifty-nine apartments, on-site amenity facilities, basement car parking, cycle storage and refuse - former Royal Gatehouse Hotel, The Norton
• Proposed residential development of three townhouses with on-site car parking and amenity facilities - land to rear of 1-5 White Lion Street
• Part-demolition of cinema, plus proposed commercial, retail, leisure development comprising four retail units and a cinema - Playhouse Cinema, White Lion Street. There is also a separate listed building application for this part of the scheme.
• Seventeen affordable apartments with on-site parking, bin store and refuse collection - land adjacent to Clifton Rock (former petrol station)
• Demolition of rear annexes, alterations and extensions to create hotel accommodation, conferencing, banqueting and creation of three ground floor retail units - Royal Lion Hotel.
The applications have been described by architects, C2J, as a 'comprehensive development of the whole area'.
A spokesman for the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority added: "Together the applications form a major redevelopment proposal in the National Park.
"The scheme will be considered at a National Park Authority development management committee meeting once the applications have been processed and consultations are complete."
