Tenby Town Council are to keep open a book in their offices at the De Valence for members of the public to come forward and comment on what kind of design they would like to see in place of the former Royal Gate House Hotel.

Clr. Mrs. Trisha Putwain made the suggestion at Tuesday night's meeting of the council.

"It seems that the National Park planners just think that it's done and dusted that we councillors and the town's people want to see some kind of old-fashioned design put in place, but I think that it's rather patronising to assume that everyone thinks that way," she said.

"A recent poll on the Tenby Observer website showed that a slight majority favoured seeing some kind of new design put in place for a scheme involving the Royal Gate House Hotel site and the Royal Playhouse Cinema, so it would be good to get more public feedback by opening a book," added Clr. Mrs. Putwain.

Clr. Mrs. Julie Evans called for a further update on when the rubble on the site would be removed.

"Anything would look better than the pile of rubbish that is currently there. We don't want to go through another summer with it still there," she said.

The town clerk said that they were still trying to arrange a date for a meeting with Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority's conservation officer Rob Scourfield.
