Sir,

It is with complete and utter disbelief that I have been compelled to write this letter.

This past Saturday, July 13, I went to Tenby with my family, after spending a pleasant afternoon, and as the weather was still warm we decided to have a fish and chip supper al fresco before we went home. We bought our supper and then walked to the sea-front to go to the gardens on the Paragon by the Imperial Hotel.

We were astounded to see that the gates to the gardens had been padlocked and had a sign on them saying, 'These gardens will be closed from dusk'. It was only 6 pm and still lovely weather for sitting admiring the view of the sea and Caldey Island for at least another two hours, so what are the powers that be thinking of?

I understand that they may want to keep out the inevitable louts that a pleasant seating area can attract, but do they honestly think a locked gate will stop them climbing over?

Also, when the powers that be sent their staff to 'lock up', why could they not have emptied the waste bins that were all over Tenby overflowing with rubbish?

Do you and your readers think this helps in attracting visitors to Tenby?
