Members of The Gardeners' Club... for Enthusiasts were recently entertained by their speaker, Frank Hardy.
Mr. Hardy is a Chelsea gold medal winner and the former vice-principal of Pershore College of Horticulture; his topic was, 'Colour all year round - in addition to green!'
He brought some superb examples of plants which would give any garden a beautiful show of colour during each season of the year; these included some exciting new varieties, including a red Coreopsis 'Limerock Ruby' and a vivid yellow Cotton Lavender - Santolina 'Lime Fizz'.
Members and guests thoroughly enjoyed his talk and were able to buy the plants afterwards - their colours are expected to brighten up Pembrokeshire gardens in future.
The members of the club are now looking forward to hearing from the next speaker who will help them combat their worst enemies, 'Slugs and Snails'.
Jennifer Matthews is a member of Pembrokeshire Growers' Association, runs Moorland Cottage Plants on the slopes of the Preseli Mountains, and grows 'a wide range of mollusc proof hardy perennials, ferns and grasses', propagated from her own gardens. Jennifer will come to talk to the club on Tuesday, July 28.
The venue is Rudbaxton Community Hall, Crundale, starting at 2 pm. There is a large car park plus facilities for disabled people. Light refreshments will be served and, of course, guests will be very welcome.
If anyone would like further information about the club and future events, please contact either the chairman, Jill Foster, on 01437 751241, or the secretary, Eileen Seal, on 01646 682504.
