Pembrokeshire County Council's head of environmental services, Barry Davies, has told Tenby Town Council that it is unlikely that the town's civic amenity site at the Salterns will be retained. County council officers have been reviewing options for relocating the facility, with a site outside Tenby being the most suitable outcome. "This process is at a very early stage, and no definite plans have been made," wrote Mr. Davies. "Consequently there is no immediate prospect of the current arrangement changing." When discussing the letter at Tuesday night's meeting of the town council, members felt that the site should still be retained as a satellite base in the future. "If the site is moved, it may encourage illegal dumping of waste, as people will not want to travel outside of the town to get rid of their rubbish," commented Mayor, Clr. Trevor Hallett, with his deputy, Clr. John Griffiths, stressing that they needed to keep an eye on matters and request that they be informed by county council of any changes. Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown also felt that it was a topic they could tackle when they met with county council's communities and voluntary sector representative, Clr. Peter Stock.
