The 14th century St. Mary’s Church in Carew has been awarded a Heritage Lottery Grant of £88,700 towards the cost of urgent repair work to the 100ft tower roof, including improved rainwater disposal. In addition, underpew heating will also be installed, together with a new church guide and historical interpretation.

The total cost of the project is estimated at about £130,000 and further grant aid is being sourced. It is hoped to start the work towards the end of the year.

Currently there is a shortfall of some £20,000. Church members have started the hard work of fundraising and a number of events are being arranged during the year.

The first of these will be a Bingo Evening in Carew Memorial Hall on Friday, June 3, commencing at 7.30 pm.

On Friday, July 22, a Pudding Evening and Quiz will be held, also in Carew Memorial Hall.

A concert is being arranged at St. Mary’s on Sunday, August 21, further details of which will be announced later.
