Two friends from Oxfordshire who regularly holiday in Tenby have just completed a mammoth cycling trip to the resort for charity.

While the rest of their family and friends journeyed down in motor vehicles for their break away, Richard Wingfield and Hywel Evans of Thame, set off on Sunday on their trusty bikes.

After stopping off at Hywel's relatives in Pontargothi, the fundraisers were back in the saddle again and arrived at Tenby's Meadow Farm Camp Site on Tuesday morning where they'll be staying for the week.

As Richard has strong connections to Chinnor Rugby Club (with some rugby players even making the journey down to Tenby with them), he's raising funds for the RFU Injured Players Foundation, while Hywel has taken the challenge on for Help for Heroes.

"The fundraising idea to cycle here stemmed from a chat on last year's holiday in Tenby, and after we'd had quite a few drinks, it seemed like a good idea," laughed Richard.

"We're very involved with our local rugby and we felt it was time to put something back in aid of those whose injuries are more sustained.

"Also close to our hearts are the injured service personnel whose pain and suffering is not as temporary as Hywel's saddle sores and face physical and mental challenges daily now that they are back home," explained Richard.

"We're raising money for a couple of very good causes and we'd like to thank everyone for their support so far, and Vicky and Bob, of Meadow Park, for a great welcome as always," added Hywel.
