The Freemasons from Tenby Lodge have presented a donation for £750 to Tenby Surf Lifesaving Club (Surflink) after their recent training session.

The Club is rolling out volunteer lifesaving patrols at Tenby’s South Beach when there are no lifeguards on busy beach days, to support the RNLI service. To do this they need patrol uniforms in order to be easily recognised on the beach.

Senior Lodge member Tony Upham brought a proposal to the Tenby lodge committee where it was quickly agreed to provide funds for the purchase of the uniforms.

Surf Club leader Tai Jackson said: “Lifeguard services have reduced in recent times so we were keen to offer our skills, and we are grateful once again for the assistance from the Freemasons in purchasing the essential kit required.”

Tenby Lodge Charity Steward Steve Thurgood commented: “We are committed to supporting local good causes so we are delighted to make these funds available to Surflink who provide excellent community service voluntarily, particularly to young people.”

The club have been teaching the multi-disciplined sport of lifesaving since 1993, educating participants from ages eight and upwards in surf safety, open water skills and swimming confidence to ensure their safety on the coastline.

Weekly training sessions take place throughout the Summer from its Training Facility and Building based at South Beach Car Park, Tenby. In the cold winter months it runs weekly Pool Sessions at Tenby Leisure Centre, building core swimming skills ready for the Beach Sessions.

With its direct links to the RNLI, training and assessment is also provided for those wishing to become Beach Lifeguards, or as first aiders and sports coaches.

They also provide a lifeguard service for local coastal events such as Ironman Wales, Long Course Weekend, Saundersfoot New Year Day Swim and Tenby North Boxing Day Swim. Their stated aim is to save lives and prevent drowning through education and training on Surf Lifesaving in the Local Community.
