Women from Pembrokeshire are being given the opportunity to show what bright sparks they are in a free short course being run by women's project, Ready Set Go.
This short course, running two days a week from June 19 until July 10, will show participants how to build and maintain domestic lighting and power circuits, giving students enough understanding to tackle simple repairs at home. They will also be shown how to solve simple electrical faults with small domestic appliances such as kettles, toasters or even computers. The course will be delivered by Skillstart Training from their workshop base in Cardigan and promises to be an enlightening and fun experience for the lucky women who take part! Ready Set Go is an ESF funded project, which aims to help women access non-traditional training and employment.
Wendy Allan, project coordinator, said: "We are hoping to widen the horizon for women, by giving them the opportunity to try new things like electrical installation, and the confidence to tackle new areas of work even if they are not the norm for women." The project aims to level up the playing field within particular industries, such as science, engineering and technology, by encouraging more women to step up to the plate, and more employers to consider women a viable group of employees. Anyone interested in enrolling on this free short course should contact the Ready Set Go team on 01269 845155 or email [email protected]">[email protected] The Ready Set Go project can also provide any woman attending (aged 16+) with funding towards travel and childcare costs.
The Ready Set Go project is part-funded by The European Union Objective One European Social Fund, provided through the Welsh Assembly Government; ELWa and Careers Wales. The European Social Fund is helping develop employment by promoting employability, the business spirit and equal opportunities and investing in human resources.
