On the seventh day of Christmas, my true love gave to me, seven swans a swimming... so the popular festive verse goes.

Well Tenby adventurer Rosie Swale Pope will be swimming and dressing as a swan for her own seasonal event!

Rosie is going swimming - and running - dressed as a Swan Lake ballet dancer - all to raise funds for Tinkers Hill Bird of Prey and Swan Rescue Centre, Amroth.

The 64-year-old grandmother has not finalised her Christmas plans and is unsure if she will be able to take part in the festive swims at Tenby, Saundersfoot and Amroth, due to work and family commitments, so she is doing her own swims this weekend.

While many of us have been freezing in the big winter chill this week, Rosie says the temperatures are mild compared to the -40 and -50s she experienced in Siberia, so will be stripping off her swan costume to take a dip in the briny in just a bikini!

And she launched her weekend of fund-raising yesterday (Thursday) with a pre-event dip in the chilly waters of the North Beach.

From today (Friday) until Sunday, Rosie will be running with her festively-decorated Icebird from Tenby to Saundersfoot and on to Wiseman's Bridge and Amroth from where she will run to Laugharne to raise funds for Tinkers Hill, taking a dip in all four resorts on the way.

She also plans to camp out in Icebird along the way.

"Maria Evans does a tremendous amount of work at Tinkers Hill looking after injured and orphaned swans and birds of prey; I just want to do a little something to honour her," said Rosie.

"I have a lot of admiration for her looking after the animals in this cold weather and just want to pay homage to her.

"This is my pre-Christmas whirl and if I can raise funds for her along the way, I will be very pleased."

Added Maria: "Rosie is a great character and I cannot thank her enough for the way she has supported us."

Inspired following a talk by Maria and Rosie, a group of staff at Tenby's Park House Court Nursing Home will be taking part in the New Year's Day Swim at Saundersfoot, also to raise funds for Tinkers Hill, which is based in Amroth.

"My little adventure this weekend is also in honour of the staff of Park House Court who do such great work too," added Rosie, who appealed for people to sponsor them.
