A NEW vicar starting his ministry on the outskirts of Cardiff last week received support from his old parish in Tenby, where he served for eight years.

A coach party from Tenby were among those attending the packed-out service at St. Catwg's Church, where the Rev. Michael John was inducted as Vicar of Pentyrch with Capel Llanillterne by the Archbishop of Wales, Dr. Barry Morgan.

Mr. John was ordained as a priest in 1990 after graduating from the University of Wales, Lampeter, and training at the College of Resurrection, Mirfield.

He served as a curate in the parish of Coity with Nolton and Merthyr Dyfan and was vicar of St. George, Tredegar, for five years.

He was a prison chaplain at Gartree, East Midlands, for five years, before returning to Wales to serve as a vicar in Tenby.
