A former submariner has been elected the eighth chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council.
Clr. Mickey Folland, who represents the Tenby South electoral division on the authority, has 32-years experience in local government.
He succeeds Clr. Leslie Raymond MBE.
Born and bred in Tenby, Clr. Folland has been a member of the county council since it was formed in 1996.
His involvement in local government began in 1971 when he joined Tenby Borough Council. He served as Mayor of Tenby in 1979 and four years later was elected onto South Pembrokeshire District Council.
A former chairman of the Milford Port Health Authority, he served as Tenby's Dyfed county councillor for several years before reorganisation and has also been a member of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Committee.
Clr. Folland joined the Royal Navy in 1953 and served as a telegraphist on the submarine HMS Taciturn. He saw active service in Cyprus and Suez and was a member of the Fleet Bomb and Mine Disposal team based in Singapore.
A magistrate, Clr. Folland is also involved in the Tenby Lifeboat Service. He is married to Susan.
Clr. Folland was elected to office at Pembrokeshire County Council's annual meeting on Friday. His elevation was proposed by cabinet member, Clr. Brian Hall and seconded by Clr. Clive Collins.
Afterwards, Clr. Glyn Rees, of Newport was elected vice-chairman. He was formally proposed by Clr. John Davies and seconded by Clr. Don Evans.
A vote of thanks to the outgoing chairman was led by the leader, Clr. Maurice Hughes.
Among the guests at the annual meeting were the Lord Lieutenant of Dyfed, the Rt. Hon. The Lord Morris of Aberavon and the chairman's chaplain, Canon David Jenkins.
