From poppadoms, pancakes and paella to smoothies, sausages and samosas, there was plenty of food, glorious food, on the menu in Narberth at the weekend as the town served up its annual Food Festival.

With a whole host of ingredients, including a bustling fair with stalls packed with some of the finest locally produced food and drink, informative cookery demonstrations by well-known local chefs along with Junior Welsh Chef of the Year and Welsh Culinary Team member, Gareth Dwyer, tastings, competitions and festival specials around the town, the fourth such event on Friday and Saturday proved another culinary success.

And mixed in with these attractions were double helpings of fun, with wild and wacky street entertainment and music workshops, topped off with a performance of 'Today of All Days' by Cambridge Footlights, plus the start of the new season of films with Narberth Film Society on Sunday.

Adding a new flavour to the festival this year was the 'Poppadoms and Poetry' evening with Ifor Thomas and the lunchtime talks given by award-winning food writer, Elisabeth Luard, and Peter Preece, food and drink enthusiast and Francophile.

"The festival went very well," commented Jackie Palit, one of the event organisers.

"Everything went smoothly and everyone enjoyed the event," she told the Observer this week.

"The street entertainers were great and the Food and Drink Fair was visited by around 1,300 people," she continued.

"We are looking at new ideas for next year's event and would like to hear from anyone who would like to join our Food Festival group or has any suggestions to make," she added.
