Folly Farm has recently handed over a cheque for £650 to Ty Hafan, the Welsh children’s hospice. The money was raised from the 5p charge placed on carrier bags sold at the park.
Ty Hafan offers care, support and comfort to life-limited children and their families. Every year Ty Hafan has to raise well over £3 million in order to offer their free service to those families in need.
Priscilla Bowden, regional fundraising manager for Ty Hafan, said “On behalf of all the children and families at Ty Hafan - the hospice for children in Wales - I wish to say a huge thank you to Folly Farm for their kind and continued support. This donation of £650 is enough to pay for 25 hours of physiotherapy to ease the pain that children and young people experience, as a result of their conditions. Thank you all so much.”
Folly Farm actively encourage people to bring their own bags as part of their ongoing conservation strategy as they try to reduce the impact people have on the local environment therefore making themselves a more sustainable business.
The Folly Farm ‘working for the future team’ looks at ways they can improve sustainability and continue to deliver on their commitment to conservation. The team is tasked with researching other ways they can further conserve energy, cut wastage and reuse and recycle more.
Folly Farm also introduced their own canvas bags, with 50p from each sale going directly to their zoo conservation partners.
Folly Farm is an active supporter of the Ty Hafan charity and assist whenever possible. This includes a permanent ‘money spinner’ collection bin in the Jolly Barn, periodic fundraising efforts for the charity and also in the providing of free tickets to help with respite care.
Chris Ebsworth, managing director of Folly Farm, said: “Ty Hafan provides a vital service for life limited children and their families and we’re pleased to be able to help in a small way by fundraising and giving families an often much needed day out with us.”
