There have been more than 2,500 fly-tipping incidents in Pembrokeshire in the past four years - but not a single prosecution for the offence.

The Welsh Conservatives have uncovered figures that reveal waste was dumped 2,670 times in the county between April 2005 and December last year. But there's not been a single court case as a result.

Shadow Welsh environment minister and South Pembrokeshire Assembly Member Angela Burns said: "These figures are shocking. Across the whole of Wales, 98.5 per cent of fly-tipping between April and December last year went unpunished.

"However, in Flintshire, of the 497 incidents recorded, they managed to prosecute 74 per cent of them. Fly-tipping dropped dramatically as a result.

"In Carmarthenshire, there were 5,251 incidents in the same period and only 91 prosecutions.

"The councils have got to start prosecuting people for these offences, it is only then that there will be a real deterrent.

"There needs to be a clear message that fly-tipping is illegal and it will not be tolerated."
