A major fund-raising event for Shalom House, St. David's - a Flower Festival and a Concert - will be staged at the Tabernacle Presbyterian Chapel, St. David's, next month. The festival takes place on May 28, 29, 30 and 31 and will create a showcase for some wonderful and innovative floral displays, representing all aspects of Pembrokeshire. They will be the handiwork of Freda Griffiths, of Lamphey, and a team of talented flower arrangers from all parts of the county. Flowers will come from Celtic Flowers. The chapel will be open from 10 am to 4 pm each day, and teas will be provided in the afternoon by Marilyn Salmon and helpers from Puncheston and the Gwaun Valley. The concert, which was originally scheduled for May 29, will now take place on Sunday, June 1. A fitting culmination for the flower festival, it features Friends in Harmony with musical director Jane James, Pembroke Male Voice Choir, musical director Christine Lloyd, and Neyland Ladies Choir, musical director Lynne Kelleher. The event starts at 7.30 pm. Said Margaret Burnett, founder member of Shalom House: "We are delighted with the support received from Christine Newbury and the deacons and trustees of Tabernacle Presbyterian Chapel. I am also grateful to all the dedicated Shalom Fundraisers who will be helping out at the flower festival and the concert." The proceeds of the festival and concert, which is being sponsored by Barclays Bank, Haverfordwest, will go towards Shalom House, St. David's -Pembrokeshire's first palliative care respite/day care centre, which was opened to clients on November 23. Concert tickets (£5) can be obtained from St. David's Bookshop, The Pebbles, St. David's, and at the door.
