November 30 will long be remembered by the residents of Begelly and Kilgetty as the date when a dream came true and St. Mary's Church was at long last floodlit. This was only made possible by the enormous effort and co-operation of the whole community.

Joan Thomas and Non Williams, who through various events raised over £1,000, started the fund-raising many years ago.

The Begelly Kilgetty Community Association were able to access £1,000 to be used in the community for 'historical purposes' from the SPARC Community Pride Grant, that is a project part funded by the EU under the Objective 5b ERDF programme.

Quotations were obtained for the scheme and the Parochial Church Council were then able to make up the difference and the contract awarded to Mike Wainwright.

The lights were switched on by Wendy Paine, of SPARC, and will remain on each evening until the New Year.

Present at the switching on were Joan Thomas, Non Williams, Mair Jenkins, St. Mary's Begelly, Neil Jackson, David Pugh, Kilgetty Begelly Association, Rev. Canon Michael Butler, Rural Dean, Wendy Paine, Tom Price, SPARC. Unable to be present was Mike Wainwright.
