Milford Haven Coastguard requested the launch of both Tenby lifeboats at 10.22 pm on Wednesday after several members of the public reported the sighting of flares in Carmarthen Bay.

The inshore lifeboat, Georgina Taylor, searched close inshore along Pendine beach to Ginst Point, while the all-weather lifeboat, Haydn Miller, searched further offshore up to Cefn-Sidan sands.

The remains of flares, thought to be the ones involved in the sightings, were picked up on Cefn-Sidan sands by members of Burry Port Coastguard Rescue Team.

After further investigation, the search was called off and all units returned to station. Also involved in the search was Tenby Coastguard Rescue Team.
