Firefighters from Narberth have scooped the first prize of £7,000 in the Welsh Rugby Union monthly lottery draw and each of the 14 group members has received a £500 windfall.
It is the seventh time for Narberth Rugby Club supporters to win the first prize. Jonathan Williams, the Narberberth Fire Brigade treasurer said: "We have a group of 14 firefighters who each pay a weekly contribution of £1 into our lottery fund.
"For years all of the money went into the weekly National Lottery draw without any success, so just over a year ago we decided to join the WRU scheme through Narberth Rugby Club.
"We buy 24 tickets at £1 each and we are delighted that our decision to join the WRU lottery has paid off so quickly. In fact, we intend buying more tickets each month in future."
On being asked what plans the group members had for the money, Jonathan replied: "We will be acting as match sponsors when Narberth play Vardre at home tomorrow (Saturday, October 22) in the second round of the Konica Minolta Welsh Cup.
Most of the group intend using the rest of the money for holidays or other family commitments." Peter Barrett, who administers the scheme for Narberth Rugby Club shares the group's delight with their slice of good fortune. He added: "The first prize could not have gone to a more deserving cause. They do a marvellous job and I am over the moon that they have won.
"Since the WRU lottery scheme was launched, there have been six individual members who have won the first prize of a car or cash equivalent after buying tickets through the club and it was great news to hear that the firefighters had become the seventh winners".
