Several vessels, including Tenby lifeboat, the RFA Sir Galahad, went to the assistance of a fishing boat that got into difficulties off the South Pembrokeshire coast on Wednesday.

The Leshah was potting off the St. Govan's Head area at lunchtime when the boat started taking on water.

Soon after the initial call for help was made to Milford Haven coastguard, the Leshah lost main power to the engine and started to drift.

Two local boats, the Elizabeth Jane and the Reaper proceeded to assist and whilst they were making their way to the scene, the crew of the stricken craft donned lifejackets in case they needed to abandon the vessel.

Tenby lifeboat was also launched and requested to assist with pumping out the vessel and towing it to Freshwater East.

However, whilst the lifeboat was making its way round the coast, the Reaper and the range boat, the Cecil Smith, started, in turn, to take the Leshah under a slow tow towards Freshwater East while the crew continued to manually bail out.

As the lifeboat arrived on scene, it was reported by the stricken craft that the crew had managed to bail out all the water and no more was coming in.

As a result, the lifeboat escorted both the range boat and the Leshah back to its moorings at Freshwater East.
