POETRY-lovers in Pembrokeshire are invited to put pen to paper for 'Fish and Ships', Pembrokeshire Fish Week's poetry competition. The annual competition is open to all people of all ages, and poems can be submitted in English or Welsh. They should be about fish and/or ships and must be original work. The competition will be judged by Menna Elfyn and Elin ap Hywel, two of Wales's leading poets. Menna Elfyn is an award-winning poet and playwright whose work has been translated into many languages. Elin ap Hywel is a poet and translator, and was the first bilingual fellow of the Royal Literary Fund at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. The winners will be given their prizes by the judges in a presentation at Haverfordwest Library on Tuesday, June 27, at 6.30 pm. The judges will also read the poems and a selection of their own work. The prizes are: 11 and under -first prize - family ticket to Folly Farm; second prize - £10 WH Smith voucher. 12 - 17-year-olds: first prize - family trip to Ramsey Island, courtesy of Voyages of Discovery; second prize - £10 WH Smith voucher; 18s and over: first prize - £50 voucher for a meal at Wolfscastle Hotel, plus a bottle of champagne; second prize - meal for two at Hope and Anchor. There is an additional special prize for the most outstanding Welsh language entry - a voucher for two cream teas at Pardon my Garden tearooms.
