Scientific results by The Batter Company and Campden BRI have proven that fish and chips are healthier than you think. Fish friers from across the country have been having their fish and chips tested for nutritional value.

D. Fecci and Sons Fish and Chips in Tenby is one of the first in Wales to have such confidence in their product that they sent it off for analysis.

Owners Delmon and Charles Fecci (pictured) were so confident that their fish and chips would 'batter' the other takeways, they sent off a sample. The results were fantastic; they showed that their fish and chips with homemade mushy peas were a whopping 93 per cent fat free.

"We sent a sample of our fish, chips and homemade mushy peas because we felt that the general public need to see that when eaten in moderation, fish, chips and peas are part of a healthy balanced diet," they said. "We are not saying every day is a good thing, but once a week can't be bad for you. It's been a big part of the Great British diet for decades.

"Fish and Chips consistently receive negative press nationally as a big part of Britian's ever-growing obesity problem. We felt this was unfair and needed to prove our point.

"Our fish comes from sustainable fishing grounds like Iceland, Norway and Barents Sea and it is filleted and frozen within two or three hours of being caught. It's fresher than fresh. Our fish is deboned and skinned, and the customer has a chunky fillet of fish dipped in our special batter.

"We honestly try our hardest to make sure we supply the healthiest possible meal to our customers. We cook as fresh as possible to compliment our product, so you get it as it's meant to be," concluded Delmon and Charles.
