An inability to secure a marching band to lead the parade, coupled with gloomy weather forecasts for the weekend have led Tenby Town Council to take the reluctant step of cancelling a planned firework display and torchlight parade on Sunday.

The parade and firework display had been planned to round off the celebrations marking the 600th anniversary of the granting of a Royal Charter by Henry IV in 1402 giving the burgesses the right to elect a mayor.

The fireworks were to be preceded by a torchlight parade by local school children from the De Valence Pavilion to Tenby Harbour.

"Unfortunately we have been unable to secure a marching band to lead the parade," Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown told the Observer this week.

"Added to that the weather is expected to take a turn for the worst over the weekend and we felt, rather than bring the children out on what is forecast to be a poor evening, we have decided to call out the whole evening.

"It's very disappointing, but we hope people will understand."
