Next month Firefighter Rhys Fitzgerald from the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service will join colleagues from fire brigades across the UK to take on the mighty Ben Nevis.
The challenge will take place on Saturday, September 13, but they won’t just be climbing, they’ll be tackling the mountain in heavy firefighting kit, wearing the protective leggings and tunic normally used in emergencies.
The extra weight and heat will make every step more demanding, turning an already tough ascent into an extreme challenge, all to raise vital funds for The Fire Fighters Charity and to honour the memory of fallen firefighters.
Rhys also hopes to set a world record for the most firefighters to summit Ben Nevis in firefighting kit in a single event. If you’re a firefighter in the UK and would like to take part, you can contact Rhys by filling out the registration form linked below.
How you can help:
- Join the climb - Firefighters from across the UK are welcome to take part.
- Donate - Every pound goes to support firefighters and their families in times of need.
