Members of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) went out on strike from 12 noon to 5 pm on Friday in a protest against the Government's plans for pension reform. Throughout the period of strike action, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service was operating at around 74 per cent availability. Locally, the only incident reported was at 4.29 pm, when a co-responder attended a call in Henllan Angoed, Whitland. The strike action continued for a 12-hour period between 2 pm on Saturday and 2 am on Sunday. Throughout the period of strike action, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service was operating at around 76 per cent availability and attended the following incidents: At 6.03 pm, crews were called to a deliberate refuse fire on Bush Street, Pembroke Dock, while at 7:01 pm, crews were called to a grass fire, also in Pembroke Dock. Finally, members of the FBU went out on strike for a further five hours between 10 am and 3 pm on Sunday. Throughout the period of strike action, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service was operating at around 82 per cent availability - which included appliances which had been provided for resilience to both South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and the Welsh Government. During the five hour period, crews attended the following incidents: At 11.32 am, a co-responder attended a call on High Street, Narberth, while at 1.57 pm, crews were called to a Gas BBQ on fire at Sunny Vale Holiday Park, Saundersfoot. Sunday's strike action concluded the third of three strike periods by the FBU over the bank holiday weekend. It is unknown at present as to whether there will be any further strike action by the FBU.
