Age Concern is hosting a free seminar at Plas Hyfred Country Hotel, Narberth, at 2 pm on Friday, July 11, as part of its newly-launched independent advice service through the Co-operative Independent Financial Advisers.  The seminar will focus on three main areas: maximising income in retirement; planning for care fees; and an introduction to inheritance tax. Age Concern has recently launched an independent advice service in conjunction with the Co-operative Independent Financial Advisers (CIFA) to provide access to information on the entire range of financial products available for all people over 50 in West Wales. New research from Age Concern's Age Agenda report reveals that more than one in six (7.5 million) of the UK population is in urgent need of financial advice and, of these, 600,000 are aged over 65. Even more worryingly, more than 220,000 (four per cent) households headed by people aged 65-84 are without a bank account. Over recent years, thousands of people have contacted Age Concern asking for help on important financial decisions such as inheritance tax and investments. The new service has been designed to aid people who are unsure who to turn to for unbiased advice and for those who have not had access to basic financial products and services.  Geraint Owens from Age Concern said: "We encourage people to come along to the free seminar on Friday, July 11, to see how the Independent Advice Service can help them. "If people in West Wales want to improve their quality of life in retirement and protect the value of their estates, it's essential they make informed financial decisions. "By using the Independent Advice Service and coming along to the seminar, customers can receive unbiased, tailored guidance which will help make a complicated process less daunting."
