In the summer of 1956, a team of three bonneted ladies made their way down to Saundersfoot beach. Equipped with a banner and a portable organ, they were to be the first Emmanuel Mission's 'Sunshine Centre' Beach Team.
Working with the children on the beach, their unique mix of fun, music and Bible storytelling became an instant hit. Little did they know that 50 years later 'Sunshine Centre' would still be working on Saundersfoot beach!
Since 1956, thousands of children, both locals and holidaymakers, have joined in the activities at 'Sunshine Centre'. Some now return with their children... even grandchildren! Hundreds of young people have worked as team members. Many have gone on to be involved in Christian Ministry all over the world. So, when this year's teams go onto the beach between July 23 and August 11, there is much to celebrate!
In this 50th anniversary year, many things have changed at 'Sunshine Centre'. The bonnets are out and yellow t-shirts are in; the portable organ has gone and the 'sound system' has arrived. But one thing has not changed - at the centre of each action-packed 'Sunshine Centre' programme, the goal remains to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with children on Saundersfoot beach.
