Mr. Brian Llewellyn, of Ashleigh, Penfordd, Clynderwen, was the winner of the annual driving rally organised by Pembrokeshire police at Haverfordwest.
In the week of talk about the opening of the Severn Bridge, the proposed Milford Haven high level bridge took a step nearer reality. For it had found a place at the end of the Ministry of Transport’s trunk and classified road programme for Wales.
The thrills of jalopy racing had been attracting large crowds to the Thomas Chapel track, Begelly. Two men who had been creating much of the excitement were John Williams, of Cross Inn, and Tom Davies, of Blaenwaun, Whitland. Williams and his amazing Thunderbird car won the overall championship in the Thomas Chapel club’s first season, Davies was runner-up in his Ford.
Rugby: Tenby United 8 pts Machen 13. Although Machen, a sturdy, competent XV from Monmouthshire, looked the better side and won comfortably in the end, Tenby were leading 8-3 with only a quarter-hour to go. And they would have been further ahead if they had taken their chances.
