History was made at Tenby Bowls Tournament when for the first time, the finals had to be postponed because of drenching rain. When the matches were eventually played a 51-year-old Kidwelly railway man, Gwyn Griffiths, became only the second man to win both Gold Cup and Percy Howells Silver Bowl in the same tournament. First man to congratulate him as he stepped off the sunlit green was the Tenby club captain Crofton Johns, only other man to have achieved the feat (in 1954). Winner of the Five Arches Cup was Vic Williams, of Haverfordwest.

There was a large attendance at Summerhill when Dr. O. Ryland opened the carnival and crowned the queen, Miss Eirwen John. Attendants and page boys were Valerie Irving, Valerie John, Jane Irving, Beverley Wilkins, Eric and Phillip Callen.

Champion baby at the baby show organised by the women’s section of the Crymych branch of the British Legion and held at Preseli School was bonny Thomas Jones, of Fairholme, North Road, Whitland.

Jalopy racing at Thomas Chapel, Begelly, which drew crowds of thousands to watch the thrills and spills of the current craze, had raised almost £1,000 for charity.
