One of Tenby's top festive events is under threat, it has emerged this week. With tinsel appearing on the trees and fairy lights sparkling all around the town, Tenby Round Tablers are turning their thoughts towards organising their annual Yuletide highlight, the Senior Citizens' Christmas Dinner. However, while this year's event at the De Valence Pavilion on December 15 is the 40th annual dinner organised for the town's senior citizens by Tenby Round Table, it could also be the last. Said dinner organiser, Tabler Ian Thomas: "As you know, the annual Senior Citizens Christmas Dinner is one of the main beneficiaries from our summer events. "However, numbers attending have been dropping over the last few years and Tablers are starting to think that the dinner has run its course and the money could be used to benefit other worthy causes." Ian said that this year's dinner will feature all the usual festive fare, including a three-course turkey dinner with all the trimmings, live entertainment, a free prize draw, and plenty of Yuletide merriment. "Plans are well in hand for this year's event, but we would like to see more people coming along," Ian continued. "There was a time when we were catering for over 240 people, but the last couple of years there have been less than half that number. "All senior citizens aged 60 and over from within the Tenby electoral boundary are eligible to attend and invites are already going out. However, our data base only lists people who have attended in the last couple of years, so people may be missing out. "We in Tenby Round Table are always conscious of leaving someone out. If you have not attended in the past and would like to come, if you have any friends who you think would like to come, if you have recently moved to the town and think you are eligible, or if you usually attend but have not received your invitation by the end of next week, please contact me at Clarices Toy Shop in Upper Frog Street or 'phone me on 843493." Ian added that if the thought of going out on a cold winter's night was putting people off, they need not fear as Tablers would be on hand on the night to provide door to door transport if needed. "This is one of the main events in Table's calendar," said Ian. "It is one of the ways we can give something back to the community to show our thanks for the support they have given Tenby Round Table throughout the year. "We do not want it to be the last, so why not come along. You're sure to have a cracker of an evening."
