Narberth 21 pts. Crymych 7

On a beautiful, sunny Boxing Day afternoon, before the start of the Gareth Edwards Memorial game, players, officials and spectators observed a minute's silence in memory of Alan Harries.

A former player, assistant secretary for a number of years, a past committee man and chairman of Narberth RFC Supporters Club, Mr Harries had served the interests of the Narberth club for many years.

He made a big contribution behind the scenes and it was with great sadness that members, players, officials and supporters heard the news that he had passed away on Christmas Eve.

Both teams fielded very young sides, with Narberth being led by the very experienced lock Jason Jennings and in the centre old favourite Gary Nicholas played until he was replaced later in the first half by young centre Deri Galvin.

The first half was contested keenly by both teams and by half-time both sides had scored a converted try.

Crymych scored first through flanker Mark Beasley, converted by outside-half Aled Morgan, and young number eight Richard Sharpe-Williams showed his rich potential by crossing for a try for Narberth, converted by scum-half Rhys Davies.

The second half was a similar contest, with Narberth gaining strength through some consistent pressure and with the direction of attack changing several times, they produced some good rugby.

As a result, centre Deri Galvin scored a try near the clubhouse, converted by Rhys Davies.

Further substitutions enabled Tom Richards and Jack Parcell to make an impact.

The final Narberth try was scored by centre Jack Parcell after a break by Craig Bennett, who passed to Ben Douglas, before sending Parcell clear. Once again Rhys Davies converted the try.

Narberth came close to increasing the lead with kick and chase moves, but each time the ball ran out of play.

The Otters finished the game with eight youth team players on the park.

Young Pembrokeshire referee Ben Cole brought the game to a close and both sets of supporters retired to the clubhouse to enjoy the festive hospitality and fellowship.

Narberth back row forward Rion Whatmore was nominated as man-of-the-match.
