Whitland Rugby Club enjoyed a successful time over the festive period, completing a league double to stay in contention near the top of division one. Before Christmas they travelled to play a midweek match against struggling Bridgend Athletic and returned home with a comfortable 30 points to seven victory. And by all accounts it could well have been more, if they had not squandered a number of good scoring opportunities. Nevertheless, they took control in the opening period, with outside-half Aled Davies landing three penalties to give them a nine-point advantage at the break. And they soon increased this in the second period. First winger Will Davies crossed for the Borderers' opening try and this was quickly followed by another touchdown from prop Gareth Williams who was driven over from a lineout. Highlight, however, was a third try by centre Lee Glanville, who had the Athletic defence chasing shadows as he raced in from 40 yards. The accurate Aled Davies was on target with all three conversions to complete the Whitland scoring, while the Athletic gained some consolation before the end when they were awarded a penalty try, which was converted by Stephen Lewis. Buoyed by this victory, Whitland were still in cheerful mood after Christmas when they entertained Carmarthen Athletic in a cracking local derby on Bank Holiday Monday, the Borderers running out 9-3 victors.
