The first Farmers Market in Pembroke on Saturday was a huge success, with an estimated 300 people supporting the event and buying up the local produce on offer, with many of the producers sold out before the market was officially over. Saturday's market was the first of three pilot events organised by Pembroke 21C Community Association Ltd. Working with Pembroke Country Markets and the Pembroke Chamber of Trade and Tourism, Pembroke 21C canvassed the community over the spring about whether or not a Farmers Market was something that the people of Pembroke wanted. The pilot markets are in response to the overwhelming support for the project received from the community. Speaking after visiting the market on Saturday, one of the satisfied shoppers said: "I think this market is a wonderful idea and has the benefit of being on Saturday for those of us who work during the week." The next market will take place at St. Michaels Square on the morning of Saturday, August 19, and the market will take place on September 2 on the Mill Bridge as part of Pembroke Festival activities.
