A Pembrokeshire farmer has been gaoled for four months after admitting ill-treating his livestock.

Ioan Michalski, aged 53, has also been banned from keeping sheep and cattle for five years.

Magistrates in Haverfordwest heard that a number of animals owned by Michalski on land near Penffordd and Llandissilio had to be put down by a vet because he had failed to provide them with proper care and nutrition.

Members of Pembrokeshire County Council's Animal Health Team also found unburied carcasses when they visited both sites in January of last year.

Prosecuting for the Authority, solicitor Nigel Butcher told the court that Michalski, of Heneglwys Cottage, Letterston, had failed to act on advice offered to him by RSPCA Inspectors.

Members of his family are now caring for the remaining animals.

Michalski was also ordered to pay court costs of £1,000.
