In a hard fought match played in sometimes extreme conditions, Tenby Youth came out on top with an 11 points to five win against Narberth on Saturday.

The venue for the match had to be changed to Tenby at short notice due to the Narberth pitch being unplayable after the overnight rain.

The score was opened five minutes into the game from a penalty by Aled Griffiths.

The sides were very well matched, but Tenby had more of the possession, mainly thanks to Alex Jenkins's lineout work and Peter O'Hagan's efforts in the scrum.

Despite the ball being very wet and slippery, Jason Keights and Alex Watt made every effort to run at the opposition. Only committed tackling by Narberth kept the score down.

Aled narrowly missed with his second penalty attempt just before half-time.

In the second half, the Tenby side continued to dominate the set-pieces, but were unable to convert the possession into points.

With the slippery ball not going to hand and being hacked through, this resulted in Narberth scoring a breakaway try wide out, leaving a difficult kick which was not converted.

Some skilful kicks from Aled kept Narberth under pressure. Tenby were then awarded a penalty near the posts, which Aled converted.

Late in the second half, with both sides trying to play open rugby in poor conditions, Aled kicked into the box, where strong-running Matthew Davies collected the ball and crashed over for a try.

There were strong games from Tom James, moving to the wing forward position, which suits him, Jonathon Sheasby and Lourence Brits. Nick Griffiths also had a good game on the wing.

Tenby were without Sam Smith, who was away on trial for the Welsh Youth squad. The team and management wish him well.
