Tenby’s extended pedestrianisation scheme will be made permanent, following the success of last year’s trial.
Cabinet backed the proposal to close roads in the tourist town’s walled centre for a longer period over the summer at its meeting on Monday (February 11).
Cabinet member for planning and infrastructure Clr. Phil Baker said that in the past the pedestrianisation had been linked to sporting events Ironman Wales and the Long Course Weekend, with changing dates.
Last year a trial extension of a period from the first Monday in July to the second Friday of September, between 11 am and 5.30 pm, was deemed a success.
A public consultation saw 297 respondents make comment on the scheme. Of those, 157 were from residents or businesses from within the walled town.
Some 57 per cent – 169 – found the extension acceptable and 36 per cent – 108 – were against the idea.
Forty-eight per cent of the walled town residents and businesses considered it acceptable and the local member was “content” said Clr. Pugh.
